Position: Volunteer Program Coordinator
Objective: To coordinate programs and projects created by the Friends of the Avenue
The Avenue of the Arts, Inc. (AAI) seeks an energetic, detail-oriented individual to support a new initiative spearheaded by its Board of Directors and Executive Director. In 2009, AAI formed the Friends of the Avenue comprised of residents living within the district. The residents of this emerging neighborhood will support the organization’s beautification projects and initiatives.
Responsibilities: The Program Coordinator will work for AAI, coordinating social and fundraising events, providing logistical and administrative support. The Program Coordinator will attend meetings on behalf of AAI Executive Director, investigate partnership and sponsorship opportunities with businesses and corporations, attend recruitment meetings, give presentations related to the AAI/Friends, develop monthly membership and status reports for the AAI Executive Director and work closely with the Friends of the Avenue leadership.
Qualifications: Knowledge of special events and program coordination, excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills, ability to attend evening events, Microsoft computer skills, meeting management skills and strong desire to support Philadelphia’s premier arts and entertainment district.
Average Time Commitment:ten hours a month (more during special events and programs).

POSITION: Vice President, Communications
The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to promoting growth and economic development, advocating for sound public policy, and serving our members with outstanding programs and benefits. GPCC is the premier advocate of the region’s business community, representing approximately 5,000 member companies in 11 counties across three states with one voice.
We are currently seeking an experienced communication professional to provide leadership and direction for the Chamber’s overall communications strategy. This includes website and internet capabilities, media relations, public relations and marketing, and the development and promotion of the Chamber brand as the premier voice of the business community.
The Vice President, Communications will be responsible for shaping and transmitting key messages about the Chamber and its initiatives, and expanding awareness of the organization, its benefits and programs, through virtual and traditional marketing vehicles for the purpose of better retaining and growing membership and supporting public policy initiatives and advocacy. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President, Communications will play the central role in spearheading new communications initiatives, enlisting other business unit leaders and Chamber staff to help. His/her responsibilities will encompass high level strategy development as well as day-to-day management of communications activities. Given the nature of the projects and the entrepreneurial environment of the Chamber, the Vice President, Communications is expected to be a self-starter who can bring a wide range of experience and talent, exercise good judgment, play a hands-on role when necessary, manage others and deliver results.
Responsibilities include:
Strategy:Develop and seek senior management endorsement for an overall communications plan and individual strategies specific to particular programs and initiatives.The plan will set out objectives, plans, and specific activities to be pursued in each area of responsibility.
Branding: Manage, develop and execute a coherent branding plan for the Chamber; and oversee brand-building activities.Maintain a consistent messaging and style; and serve as a "final check" over all major documents leaving the organization.
Media Relations: Serve as the primary media contact at the Chamber. Author all press releases and media advisories and oversee and coordinate the placement of op-eds. Promote members of executive team or board to the press for interviews and commentary. Reach out to and develop working relationships with members of the press at regional media outlets, freelance journalists, bloggers, and other traditional and non-traditional media outlets.Monitor online and offline news media for coverage of the Chamber. Maintain repository of speeches, articles and essays authored by Chamber staff.
Marketing & Public Relations: Oversee all major communication between the organization and third parties; supervise email marketing campaigns.Use analytics and data acquisition to better target the Chamber’s marketing efforts.Coordinate the production and distribution of Chamber publications and develop organizational collateral including brochures and press packets. Assist Partnership Marketing in creating opportunities for Sponsors to be recognized beyond events.
Internet Presence: Oversee the management of the Chamber’s website and fully utilize Social Media opportunities to increase participation and enhance the Chamber’s visibility.
Creative Services and Event Promotion.Provide strong, effective and highly visible leadership to the Creative Services team providing oversight to the production of content and creative design for all outreach for GPCC and, to a lesser extent, Affiliates programs and events, including print (i.e., invitations, ads, program books, letters); e-Communications (i.e., htmls, newsletter and Web site); and media (i.e. news releases, media advisories, photo captions and op-eds).Oversee all post-event communications, including but not limited to, event reviews, blog spots, uploading of presentation materials, media, webinars and the production of commemorative items.
Ensure that department employees are stimulated, motivated and guided to contribute fully to the realization of the Chamber’s mission and strategic objectives. Empower employees to identify innovative approaches to enhance organizational performance. Foster cooperation and collaboration among business units.
Serve as a member of the Management Team.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in business, marketing, communications required; Masters preferred
Minimum of ten years combined senior management and communications experience
Experience must include strategic planning, communications planning and management, marketing and media relations.
Must be well-versed on the most up-to-date ways to utilize social media to engage target audiences
Must be a strong communicator with excellent written, presentation, oral communications and interpersonal skills.
Must possess strong leadership skills and be able to motivate and influence others.
Must be able to think creatively and strategically, have excellent judgment and be able to work in a changing environment.
Computer proficiencies in Windows, MS Office - including Word, Access and Excel
